Why a Guinea Pig?

A guinea pig is a great asset to any household. While, unlike dogs, they don’t fetch or any fancy tricks and such, they are very lovable and sociable. Few animals will show the type of enthusiasm a guinea pig will show you when you come home or when you feed him or her.

Sure they are a lot of work and a lot of responsibility, but they make up for it by being you’re friend. Entirely dependent on you, a guinea pig will rarely bite a human it trusts. If your guinea pig is biting you and you have had it for a while you may want to check if it is in pain or if something is frightening it. Another cause may be that your fingers smell like food.

As I have said in other posts, it is a common misconception that guinea pigs just lounge around in their cage all day not really doing anything. Guinea pigs are very active creatures and they may nap but they rarely sleep. Some guinea pigs have even been known to jump up when they are extremely happy. It’s such a wonderful sight.

Guinea pigs are among the pets I most recommend for any family to have. They are cute, affectionate, social, loud at times, but they are definitely a pet worth having as long as you have the time to spend with them.

Another advantage of having a guinea pig is that you can’t be allergic to their fur, because they don’t have fur they have hair. You can be allergic to their urine but a face mask when cleaning their cage is all that is needed in this case.
